Review Policy

Please read the following information in full before sending me your book.

What Books Do I Accept?

At this time, I am only accepting digital copies for review, preferably in the EPUB format. I will also accept PDFs.

I accept books in the following genres:

  • Fantasy/Adventure
  • Science Fiction
  • LGBTQ (any genre)
  • Contemporary
  • Historical Fiction
  • Thriller
  • Nonfiction: Nature/Environment
  • Nonfiction: Queer Theory

I accept books in the following age ranges:

  • Middle Grade
  • Young Adult
  • (limited) New Adult
  • (limited) Adult

I do not accept books in the following genres:

  • Erotica
  • Religion
  • Children’s
  • Gore

I also do not accept any book containing AI-generated content, including AI-generated cover art.

NOTE: Even if your book does not fit easily into these parameters, I still encourage you to reach out for consideration, as my tastes are broad!

When Will My Review Be Published?

If there is a certain date by which you would like my review to be published (your release date, etc.), please include this date in your email when you contact me, and I will let you know if I can work within that timeline.

Otherwise, I will do my best to publish my review within 2 months of receiving your book; please understand that this is not my full-time job, so instant turn-around is limited.

What Is Included In My Review?

A typical book review on Shelf of Pages includes all of the following:

  • Basic information: Title, Author, Year of Publication, Series Name (if applicable), Number in Series (if applicable), Genre, and Intended Age Range
  • An image of the book cover
  • The book’s Goodreads link
  • A link to the author’s website (if applicable)
  • A brief synopsis
  • The review itself
  • A few of my favorite quotes from the book
  • My overall rating on a 5-star scale:

I also use half-stars in my ratings. Example: ★★★✬☆ 3.5 stars.

Where Else Is My Review Posted?

In addition to a full blog post, all of my reviews are cross-posted to Goodreads. Currently, my average Goodreads rating is 4.0*.

*This number is subject to change slightly every time I rate a book. Therefore, the number listed here may not be up-to-date. For an accurate number, look directly at my Goodreads profile.
Another quick note about Goodreads: In my reviews, I use half-star ratings, and I round these UP on Goodreads. So if I rate your book 4.5 stars, for example, I will rate it 5 stars on Goodreads, and my written review will start with “4.5 stars” to clarify. Because of this, my “average Goodreads rating” is an overestimate.

I will also mention your book in my Monthly Wrap-Up post at the end of the month during which I read your book. This will not include my full review; it will include my star rating and a quick overview of my thoughts. Note that this may be published before my full review, but I will go back and link the full review once it is up.

What If I Don’t Like Your Book?

I’m not here to trash anyone or any book. For that reason, if I don’t like your book, I will not post a review on my blog or elsewhere. Instead, I will simply move on without any public indication that I’ve read your book.

I consider a 3-star rating or higher to be “good” (see my rating system above) and will proceed with posting my review if I rate your book at least 3 stars.
